GARDEN PLANTING SEASONS & VARIETIES I HAVE STARTED FROM SEED FALL 2013

PLANTING GUIDELINES FOR LAS VEGAS, NEVADA GATHERED FROM MULTIPLE SOURCES AND BASED OFF SUCCESS OF MULTIPLE GARDENERS...

SPRING GARDEN suggested planting for cool season vegetables is mid-January through end of March.

SUMMER GARDEN suggested planting for warm season vegetables is mid-March through June with the majority of the vegetables doing best when planted in April and May.

FALL GARDEN suggested planting for cool season vegetables is August through mid-October.

The SPRING & SUMMER GARDENS mesh together as well as the SUMMER & FALL GARDENS.

I started my Fall Garden 2013 too late. Instead of starting my seeds indoors 6-8 weeks before September or October and then transplanting them during those months, I started them both indoors and out in the garden from seed in October. The lettuce plants I bought from the nursery and transplanted in October have been doing well. The eggplant is not growing well, however. At the time I bought the eggplant from the nursery, I had only just begun my garden research. I just assumed they grew well in the fall because they were being sold in October at the nursery. I have since learned that they are a warm season vegetable. Since Las Vegas is a warm climate, they can be planted as late as early August and produce through the fall. I got mine in too late. I'm going to just leave them in the ground and see what they do.

I've read that many Las Vegas gardeners have success growing vegetables nearly year round because of the warm climate.
